Resolutions - Are They worth It?

Many years I sat down to write my goals for the year and resolutions. The word resolution by definition means to resolve something like a problem or it’s a decision to do something, something that hasn’t been done before. I also could mean determination, a firmness of mind or purpose, an answer to a problem.

Well, although I can’t solve the world’s problems, I can determine to make adjustments and realignments in my own life. I have a deeper desire to know God more and to fellowship with Him more. Although I know He is always with me, my conversations with Him haven’t fulfilled the closeness that I want to feel from Him. Being a Christian and loving God and wanting to please Him in my words and deeds has been my passion. I refrain from gossip, from idle talk and from negative people. I love people and pray that they will see the Lord in me.

Goals, short range and long range, are important to make because it helps me to focus and to apply myself to change. I have several areas of interest in my life and I write my goals in an outline format. So whether you want to or not make the effort to write things down. Write down your passions, your interests, your concerns about relationships, hour hobbies, your work, your family. Include everything that effects your life.

Many people say they don’t have time. I made the decision years ago to make the time. If something is important enough in your life, you can change old habits, old routines of doing things and work toward your goals. The following is my own outline and you can adjust it according to your own life. It may be helpful or not. However, if you take the time, write your goals out and check back occasionally to see how you are doing or remind yourself of the things you decided.

GOALS FOR 2009

I.                    Bible Study - Work at doing and not just collecting Bible lessons and share them with others. Also keep getting information for the Worship team. Pray for another worship leader.

A.     Individual Study

B.     Group study –perhaps lead a Bible Study..I’d really like that. Three years of Bible college for what?

I’m a teacher and also a leader.

II.                 Prayer and Meditation –

A.     Take more time in the morning or late at night, read the Psalms and Proverbs

B.     Try to make new songs from the readings and read the books that will inspire me.

III.               Music – notate the songs that have already been written.

A.     Spend at least an hour each night going over the music with software

B.     Rewrite out words

IV.              Worship Music

A.     Continue collecting new songs for the team

B.     Try new styles, using keyboard

C.     Teach piano where possible…had four students but now down to one

V.                 Photography

A.     Work on photo albums

B.     Try to make a family chart

VI.              Poetry

A.     Keep a running tab on poetry submitted to poemhunter

B.     Do I want to continue Passionup.com?

C.     Do I want to make another book of poems? or music? (I could just write the words to my songs)

VII.      Family – since everyone is in Phoenix…continue keeping track of everyone and praying for them and their needs, personal and work

VIII.      Work – Although I see myself moving somewhere else and hoping to find a man to share my interests and my life, I must continue doing my best at prospecting, writing letters, making phone calls, helping the business improve their image and reputation. I have been interviewed already giving everyone a little idea of the people I work for and their interests in the community

    Kathryn,

I'm glad you posted this comment! I'm a big believer in sharing resolutions and goals, because it helps keep us accountable. And who doesn't need a little help?
