Aging
Maybe it’s easy for athletes, but for most of us, being fit is an
ongoing battle. With aging, medical issues complicate our intent.
Friends Mary Ellison, 80, and Evelyn Hunt, 67, are determined to
succeed. Mary, a retired nurse, once liked hiking and backpacking.
After being widowed, job and home responsibilities drove out fitness.
Evelyn, with a lifelong weight problem, played tennis before she
stopped exercising.
Using the QUEST program as catalyst, they now work out together three
times a week. Keeping each other on track is a key benefit of their
exercise partnership. Covering the expense isn’t easy, but both feel
the sacrifice forces a commitment. Six weeks into their program, each
sees improvements in stamina and strength. Courage to begin—despite
their age and obstacles—sets these two apart.
