5 minute workout

Not being the most motivated person in the world, I developed my own work-out regime. I call it the 5-MININUTE WORK OUT. I do it 5 times a week. (I thought 7 times a week would be overkill.) The beauty of my fitness routine is that you can always find 5 minutes a day to exercise, even if you are still working full time. However, I must confess that if I do not get my workout completed in the morning, my chances of finishing my workout decrease dramatically. If you were ambitious, my 5-minute work out could actually be completed in three minutes, but I allow myself two minutes to daydream and rest between exercises. I utilize the ab roller, a simple but effective device to work the mid section. I do 40 stomach crunches, 12 side crunches, (both sides) and 12 crunches raising the knees to the chest. Next, I will do 12 curls with barbells (both arms) or a similar strength building exercise. If I had any drive, I would complete my session with 45 minutes on the treadmill. This would give me the perfect complement of anaerobic and aerobic exercise. The treadmill and the universal gym located in the basement have become rusted due to lack of use, but they serve as a great place to hang and dry the laundry. I could petition my wife to remove the garments from the equipment and really accelerate my workout, but then what kind of a spouse would I be? I would rather forfeit 45 minutes of sweat and pain than see my wife unhappy. I tell people about the 5-minute workout, and they think I am kidding. I am not. It works!
I knew I was on to something with my workout program, when several years ago I was browsing through a bookstore in Orlando, Florida, and my eye caught a glimpse of a book called THE 8 MININUTE WORK OUT. I thought, “this guy is using my idea and adding 3 minutes to the workout; or maybe my ingenious workout is only five-eighths as good as his, but saves you 3 minutes a day.” I picked up the book. It was thick and filled with information. I thought maybe there was some merit to what I was doing as well as some lasting benefits.

Great stuff Pat. We also have a 5-minute workout posted with Dr. Darden. Great minds think alike! Or is it simply that we're both very busy and kind of lazy and necessity is the mother of invention?

Ah, the ab roller ... so effective but so painful! Good luck with your routine. How heavy are the weights you've been using? I'm reading a fascinating book that says heavier weights and fewer reps are better than lots of reps with lighter weights, whether you're a man or a woman. I'll write a review as soon as I am finished.
