I am a confirmed desk jockey, most comfortable with sedentary activities. However, the aches and pains were getting ridiculous! I set out 9 weeks ago on a walking program. I have done this before and it was always torture and I soon quit, but this time, I had a plan.
- I bought an iPod.
- I downloaded a book on my iPod.
- I started walking and listening.
Now that I have something to listen to, something of interest, I keep walking, my goal is 1 hour, not a distance. Over the past nine weeks, my distance has increased, since I am walking faster. Best of all...I have lost 16 pounds! And I have listened to four books!
I am so in to this, that today, I walked in the rain. I figured that I wouldn't melt, and I was right!
I also bought a Wii Fit and Wii Sport and I love it! It is fun to try and beat my previous scores. I have also improved greatly in the past 9 weeks. At first I was such a klutz, but I kept it up and now I am doing quite well. My 10 year old granddaughter was impressed!!
So, do what you like and keep moving. Remember, if you don't use it, you lose it!

Posted 9:57am July 27th, 2009Hey Lynn, good for you. Your progress is impressive and inspirational. I never thought of listening to a book while walking, not that I do it
so I should say, listening to a book if I were walking.
There is a park a stone's throw away from my apartment, I will give this a try. Thanks much for sharing your experience.
