For the past year my husband has been on pills for his cancer.  He takes them for 21 days and then off a week and once a week he takes steriod pills.  We have been paying $189 a month for the 21 pills.  May 31 he turns 65, so on May 1 he went on Medicare.  I ordered the new refill for the pills and since the price is $7000 we have to pay $4000 up front and then a percentage each month which will probably be about $350 or so a month. This is outragous.   Has anyone else found this big a difference in your medication after going on Medicare?  Guess we are lucky he didn't turn 65 last year when he started the cancer pills.  We are hoping he will not have to take the pills after this month.  The oncologist will do blood work again on Monday and let us know if he needs to continue the treatment.

It is absolutely unbelievable. How can this kind of fraud go on......what is going to make this stop? It really angers me that people would be put through this kind of stress.

Well, guess we will have to bite the bullet and pay for the medication.  We have gone down several avenues to see what can be done and we always hit a brick wall.  We are trying one last suggestion of applying to the Cronic Desease Fund to see if we qualify for any help with the medication.  I doubt we will, but it dosen't hurt to ask.

Wow, Ann ... what a nightmare!

We've talked about Medicare during our Age of Opportunity chats on Twitter, but it may be worth bringing up again.

    Thanks!

That is unbelievable. How can someone who doesn't have that kind of money to put up front, get the pills they need to save their life?

Yes this is the issue because Medicare does not cover medications.  You need to look into a Medicare supplement, The AARP has one.  There is also the Medicare D but I find it confusing.  I would watch because many  will want to put you on an HMO so read whatever you sign carefully.
