I'm having such an incredible time that I had to write my first blog! Having worked in the north island of New Zealand for a year, I saw the sights there (lovely)....but what about the south island? I'm retired now and at 65 I have the time....and still have the energy for bicycle touring. I'm now in Dunedin and hope to do the Catlins and the rest of the southern coast....then up into fiordland for a look at Soubtful Sound....and if the energy and money holds out the famous Milford Sound. I'm booked into my favorite backpakers in Golden Bay for the holiday season....then who knows. Wish you were all here....Henri Etta

Posted 10:47am November 30th, 2009Sounds like a wonderful adventure! Haven't backpacked since the 70's, when I went on several trips into the Pecos Wilderness in New Mexico, Guadalupe Mountains in Texas, and Big Bend of TX.
Please keep us posted on your further adventures. Guess the weather is mild now, since the seasons are reversed? Met a guy from New Zealand once and he was so friendly and outgoing...........
Was enjoying riding my bike, till I tore meniscus.......and perhaps will be able to ride again. Let us know how your holiday at Golden Bay goes........Take care, sandyb
