What Makes YOU Feel Confident?

The most rewarding part of my job, whether I’m coaching privately, consulting with a small group or presenting to hundreds, is when clients leave feeling happier and more confident than they felt before!

I’ve enjoyed watching adults self-esteem skyrocket for years when they:

1. learn to look their best.
2. develop strong communication skills for public speaking & interviewing, and
3. balance presenting themselves powerfully & professionally with smiles -- to be seen as impressive & strong, plus relatable & approachable.

It’s true -- experts agree one simple way to elevate self-confidence is to develop your strongest image. Some clients say they give thanks in the morning if they check the mirror at home to find they won’t embarrass themselves that day at work (appearance-wise, anyway)! For most of us, that takes some time and effort between the alarm going off and leaving the house every day; for me, it’s 1&1/2 - 2 hours!

What boosts your confidence? When do you feel unstoppable? Just join my group, Fashion Forward, and share your experiences about image, compliments, communication skills, etc., and we’ll spread the word to our members!

    Lisa:

Thank you for responding to the concerns I raised. I really appreciate your sharing specific ways that I can maximize my wardrobe and your very positive and affirming response! That has helped tremendously.

I actually am am thinking of new opportunities as well. As I grow bolder and more mature I find that I still love to work and to venture into new fields.

    Best always,

    Ann

First off,  Ann, congrats on losing 30 lbs!!  Sounds like you're doing it the healthy way, too, slowly...  through nutrition & exercise.  And you have a gorgeous smile (no doubt others respond positively!),  always the BEST accessory     :)

Between sizes, to appear impressive without spending a fortune, I recommend creating a plan, using separates to mix & match.  Try discount shopping for 1 or 2 jackets you can pair with a few basic pants or skirts & different tops (pieces you can have altered as you continue to lose).  Use the core color concept in the Closet Make Over video to expand your options with fewer pieces-- last year I did a story with FOX News on dressing your best for less: with a total of 12 carefully chosen items (2 jackets, 3 bottoms, 6 tops & 1 pair of great shoes), we created 36 incredible outfits, all for less than $250!  And each look was really impressive.

When I do closet analysis & shop with ladies interested in appearing thinner, we always include jackets (even relaxed or unconstructed ones) & sweaters with small shoulder pads, which allow us to look taller and play down hips.  This illusion also works for very casual dressing, like jeans.  My favorite part of my job is helping ladies look 2 or 3" taller & 20 pounds lighter through defensive dressing.  Many designers create looks that make us appear heavier, & it's up to US to stay away from them.

It's easy to look amazing for less... but it never happens accidentally.  You MUST have a PLAN.  Without a plan, you usually get chaos, which is why most ladies hate their closets & get depressed every morning staring at them.  I think dressing should be joyous & uplifting, empowering us to face each day, and you should never have to spend a lot to look fabulous!

For alterations, here in Orlando I recommend Tina Tran’s Master Tailors, 985 S. Orlando Ave,  WP   32789, 407-645-331.
Ask at upscale department stores for alterations referrals, and check with well-dressed friends & professional acquaintances.  I'd bring your least-important item to be altered first as a test, when sampling a new tailor.

And CONTINUED SUCCESS with your new business Creating Divine Order, as well as your healthy body, and updated image.  Here at Growing Bolder, we'd love to get a current picture of you every few months to see how successful you continue to be!

Hi LIisa and other friends: although I am short and what we used to call "pleasingly plump" I seem to have a fairly positive view point of myself . I have a sense of style, according to feedback from friends. But, I think it's my smile that people respond to. Life is very good for me, even at the age of 66 when I am working to lose 40 more pounds, after losing 30 within the past year. I have started a new business and want to stay healthy and energetic.

I would like a more upscale look. I am retired clergy and have organized a company which provides move management services. What do you recommend for those of us who are between sizes and on a modest budget? Where do I find a good tailor?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
    Ann Hutchens
