Announcing the arrival of “Heck on Heels,” my new collection of essays!  Here's the text of the press release I'm sending out into the universe... 

 

"This is the second collection of essays by award-winning Wisconsin writer and photographer Mary T. Wagner.   “Heck on Heels” follows Wagner’s debut collection, “Running with Stilettos: Living a Balanced Life in Dangerous Shoes,” which earned kudos in 2009 from the National Federation of Press Women, the Independent Publisher Book Awards, and the Royal Palm Literary Awards.  In addition to essays which first appeared on her “Running with Stilettos” blog and MORE.com, “Heck on Heels” also contains more than two dozen of Wagner’s nature photographs in black and white.  “Heck on Heels” is available through local bookstores, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and iUniverse.

 

Wagner is a criminal prosecutor in Wisconsin, and a former newspaper and magazine journalist.  Over the years her by-line has appeared in the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, San Francisco Chronicle, and Milwaukee Journal and Journal-Sentinel, as well as in magazines across the country.  Life experience that doesn’t usually show up on a professional resume includes being the mother of four, and a former girl scout troop leader, truck stop waitress, cocktail waitress, office temp, judicial clerk, and radio talk show host

 

Both books sprang from Wagner’s “Running with Stilettos” blog, which she started just before ringing in the 2007 New Year as a way to return to creative writing.  The book “Running with Stilettos…” took first place in its non-fiction category in the National Federation of Press Women’s 2009 communications contest, received a national “Silver” award in the 2009 Independent Publisher Book Awards contest, and was a finalist in the 2009 Royal Palm Literary Awards in its “published autobiography” category.  Her essay “Wildflower seeds and beer” was awarded first place in its web-writing category by the NFPW in the organization’s 2008 communications contest.  Wagner also received the Silver Feather Award from the Illinois Woman’s Press Association in 2008.  Her 2007 essay “Back seat…rider,” about the view from the back of a Harley, was reprinted in the debut issue of the Chicago Writers Association’s on-line magazine, The Write City.
