'If I only had the opportunity to...!"

This statement is one I hear often.  Discussions in groups about self-development to networking...I hear this same phrase over and over again.

There are more opportunities here in our own backyards, then most of us ever realize.  We get so hung up on the media coverage of  the 'economic crisis' and 'bailouts', that it creates internal fears and clouds our judgement.  Originally form Canada, I understand fully now why the United States of America has been called the 'Land of Opportunity'.  Everywhere I look here are opportunities!  My question is, why do the people I deal with not see it?  Have they been so programmed to ignore what is in front of them?  Not to sound rude, but since I have moved to Florida, I have a hard time keeping up with the options, offers and joint ventures available here!  And my take on the economy is a very different one that what the media portrays.

I work in personal development,  an author, and help host networking event here in Central Florida.  Even with the all the people who attend one meeting a week (average of 50), who have an entrepreneurial minset; I am shocked at how often people do not recognize what potential lies directly in front of them.  I teach classes on self-development and awareness.  I provide resources and connections for others every day everywhere I go.

Today, in our networking meeting, I offered an open invitation to our members about a company I endorse, to hear a top millionaire earner make a speech and presentation for free.  I watched many people in the room roll their eyes, take out their pens, and play with their coffee spoons.  I became very frustrated.  I asked each and everyone in the room if they were making a million dollars a year.  No hands went up.  I asked them how many of them had heard the advice 'That to be a success, one must always surround themselves with successful people".  Every hand in the room was raised.

I then, gently reminded them of how none of them experienced the same success as the speaker that would be here this week.  Obviously, he has been doing something right and something that all those present were not.  The event would be free - they could all attend as my guest.  Imagine having been given an opportunity to meet and learn from someone who is a total success for no cost and turning it down.  If nothing else, they could use the event as a networking time to build their own business and leave.  Heads then began to nod as they discovered a new potential growth.  Regardless if they were interested in the business offered or not, some amazing people and some very successful, smart people would be there willing to share their story with those who attended as guests.

This, I further explained, was the basis of why they became a business owner to begin with - the open-minded attitude they once had.

Interestling enough, a number of my 'network buddies' have decided to attend as I have been getting calls and emails all day since our meeting this am.  They know a number of people involved in this opportunity, and since this morning, they have realized that there is a lot more at stake and being offered than they were intially aware of.  Funny how 'opening' one's mind can allow so many new, wonderful things to happen.  Interesting as well, how so many concerns about money, the ecnonomy, and stress begin to diminish when people discover new perspectives and opportunities.

If anyone is interested in 'opening their own minds' and wants to attend this speech and company overview, please feel free to come to the above mentioned 'get together'.   I am not sure what else to call it, but know that you will be welcomed and the energy there will be very high and positive.  Feel free to ask about it, and I will share.  Please note, however, that it is this Friday, March 27 in Lake Mary.  I am all about resources, and moving ahead.

For this week, I ask that you do me a favor...and yes, it may seem like a 'big' one for some - take some time out from the tv, and concentrate on how you can step forward.  This does not need to be leaps and bounds...only even one baby step is fine.  Just thinking about it is fine!  The important thing is to realize that it is you who sees opportunities.  It is you who makes them happen.  Further, it is also you who ignores them when they are in front of your nose if your judgement is clouded.

Florida is beautiful in spring, and full of sunshine and opportunity.  Enjoy the sunny cloudless skies, and all that your backyard has to offer.

You are correct....if we consider that we join networking groups to grow our businesses and create opportunities, the real networker will see this concept as positive.
Why would you not take some time to listen to another successful person regardless of their industry or product. If what ever this person is pitching is not for you, that is fine, but you may be able to take away a golden nugget then share it with another person who may be interested to learn more. Being the most connected person with a solid reputation for pointing people in the right direction will  always prove beneficial. Be informed of what is happening around you. Have a great meeting!

Actually Houston, it is a direct sales company, and you are not incorrect in noting that I did not mention the company name.  In fact, I highly dislike when people do that and this entry was literally to show people that they can learn from others who are successful no matter what the profession.  I am not sure what it is that you are referring to as 'sounding too good to be true'.  I know not every opportunity is a good fit for everyone, but it is always an opporuntity for growth.  The speech and company overview is this Friday and the speaker is Garrett McGrath of XELR8.  I endore this company because of its foundations, and products help my clients.  Most of my clients are not interested in the business opportunity, however, they also know that if I am recommending it for them for medical reasons/health reasons it is simply another option open to them.  If I sounded like I was 'selling' anything to you in any way, I apologize as that is not what I attempted to communicate here.

    Blessings,

    Leigh

What you are saying sounds too good to be true to me. I am a little afraid of going to a meeting when the name of the company or organization is not revieled. Maybe I missed the company name and if I did I apologize.  This sounds like a multilevel marketing business to me.  Could it be Amway or one of their companies?
