A load of snow has covered the island.

Because of the blizzardlike winds, my husband had closed the gate yesterday with a bolt.  To find out this morning the thing is frozen, we can’t get in our out that way, only through the front door.

No waste container, no bike can leave our house now, and also the car is stuck.  The road is too dangerous to drive anyway.

Who knows, we will spent Christmas locked in. Bolted?

Loved your 12/19 Blog, and the pictures added so much.  If you're on an island near the Netherlands I'm going to enjoy exchanging reports with you, and it seems to me your English is great!  I was also surprised to hear/see the amount of snow you have.  As you may have seen, the northeastern part of the US got snowed in up to 24 inches.  Glad I'm not there.

I had my husband breathing over it  It worked!
The blow dryer would also be a good idea, I could borrow one.  But Toussaint fixed it and that is a good thing.  Lots of snow here, our son got stranded in the city because there are no trains and busses going... And tomorrow will be the same they say. Chaos for Christmas..
    Thanks for the tip, Debbie

    Ina...
How about taking a tea kettle full of hot water and try steaming the bolt open from the spout?  One of the storm windows in our kitchen was frozen shut.  Someone left the screen down.  Having both the screen and the glass storm widow down caused condensation to build up.  The condensation froze as soon as the temperature went down.

My husband carefully used the blow dryer I use to dry my hair, to help melt the ice.  Once he was able to lift the screen, he had a mess of melted ice to wipe up.  It was worth it because now we can actually see out of the window into our Winter Wonderland.
