Transformation - A Poem

On arriving at my golden years:

As I peered into the mirror, an image stared back at me. A  face so full of peace and love, I said, "Who can this be?"

The stranger smiled ever so slightly with a calmness birthed from belief; full lips began to form the words, "Have you found that which you seek?"

It paused for a long, long moment, gathered all its thoughts into one while searching for a sincere answer to the question "Have I overcome?"

"Yes," it said, with confidence and a sudden burst of pride..."I can fly above the clouds and I don't have to hide."

"I have learned from life. I've reached my goals and live with dignity, dismissing all the negative things that fate sends out to me."

Suddenly, I realized the face I saw was mine. Smiling eyes looked straight ahead as though to challenge time. The message sent was loud and clear, easy  to be read. "You've finally found the ME in life that you don't have to shed."
