Hello Everyone....

A friend of mine introduced me to this site and it is great!  I am a true Floridian, born ,raised and lived all my life in Florida. Boring? No way! people pay to visit this state

However I am also hard of hearing and have been all my life. Luckily I had a family that encouraged me to be all I wanted to be. At that time (in the old days) it was hard. No amplified telephones, no computers, no text messages...just dependent on lip reading and others telling me "what was said". Went through school sitting in the front row...seemed like one on one with the teachers and I loved it. I also discovered dance! With that, I unleashed my energy and  sometimes loneliness my dancing. I ended up auditioning for a weekly TV show and made it!  This was long before Brittney Spears!And this was Miami.....before it became the hub of activity it is now. I have been in three movies, as an extra...with Jackie Gleason and Burt Reynolds, Smoky and the bandit, Midnight Cowboy, Deliverance ... and last one with Michael J. Fox Doc Hollywood. I could read the directors lips and always knew what we were supposed to do before he said it

Anyway....I am now involved as President of the Hearing Loss Association of Florida!

I am giving back to my home state by helping others. If I can assist anyone to be able to live a full life with hearing loss , then I am happy. I am so glad the future is full of possibilities to help those with any degree of hearing loss.

But we have to learn to help ourselves too.

On April 12th , at Philipps Park in Safety Harbor Florida (on Old Tampa Bay), the Hearing Loss Association is hosting a walk4hearing event! The first for us and not the last!

Come join us, have a good time and enjoy the beautiful park. It is a 5k walk but one only has to walk as much as you wish Raising awareness about hearing loss and the organization is what we hope to do...by being visible! $25 will get you in the walk....or form a team online by going to www.walk4hearing.org   or join a team already online

My friend, Larry ( the duck that says "read my lips" posted on "other" blog) has a team you can join. Mine is "Go Gators" I live in Gainesville with the University of Florida..and I do not dare do anything different!
