It's rough out there for everyone in this economy, including pets.  I work at the SPCA of Central Florida and have seen a rise in pets being given up because people are unable to afford them.  We are in the midst of getting donations for our largest fund-raising walk, and the donations are not coming in.  We are at only 10% of our goal, and the walk is in less than a month! If you are able to give, please sign up to join the walk or just sponsor the event for a friend, relative, etc. who may join the walk.  Just go to OrlandoPets.org and click on the "Paws in the Park" link. If not sure who to sponsor, feel free to sponsor one of the volunteer teams, which are composed of local SPCA volunteers who give their time and money.  The event will be held at Lake Eola Park in Orlando on Saturday, February 13th.  All proceeds benefit the SPCA shelters in Orange and Seminole Counties.  The SPCA of Central Florida is a private, independent 501(c) (3) organization, listed by Charity Navigator as a 4 star charity (the highest rating available on the website).  It may surprise you, but the only funding we get is the money we generate at our shelters, clinics, and receive in donations.  The SPCA does not get funding from the national ASPCA or from any government source.  It's events like "Paws in the Park" that keep our organization going.

My husband and I were proud volunteers and donors even before I quit my local TV job to pursue my passion for helping animals.  3 of our 4 dogs were adopted from the SPCA, and we can't imagine our home without furry playful pets.

Please consider getting involved today.
