This week I had the pleasure to witness an important event in the lives of animals (and humans) in my community. The SPCA of Central Florida
held a groundbreaking for the major expansion of their Seminole County (FL) shelter in Sanford. It took seven years of planning and fundraising, but now the construction has finally begun. When it's completed, there will be two new buildings adjacent to the current dog/cat/clinic building. They will house a new state-of-the-art clinic, as well as a new cat housing facility. The original building will be renovated to provide for the dogs.
This is an exciting step forward for the SPCA. The growth in Seminole County has been tremendous, and the shelter's original building simply ran out of space. If an animal needed x-rays performed, they had to be taken down to the Orlando office, because Sanford didn't have the room for radiology on site. The new facility will give the animals, staff, volunteers and pet owners all the space and equipment they need. Simply put, it's going to be great.
I took my video camera along for the groundbreaking, and here's a quick story, so you can see what a great day we had. I especially liked the school kids that came to celebrate with us.
