Everywhere you look -- people are Growing Bolder!  And the political world is reeling because this just in: John McCain has selected the person who will be by his side for the 2008 presidential race.

Meet Sarah Palin, the GOP candidate for vice president:

She's the 44-year-old Governor of Alaska, a conservative, and a mother of five.  Palin is against abortion rights, a member of the NRA, and also the youngest governor in Alaska history.

So no matter who wins in November -- McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden -- it will be an historic election.

What do you think of this pick, of Obama's acceptance speech, and of politics in 2008?  What about age, and its impact -- McCain is 72, Barack Obama is 47, Palin is 44 and Joe Biden is 65 -- on the election, and on the job that each of them will be called on to do?

Neither being a citizen or resident of the USA I have a purely academic interest in the US Presidential elections. It remains to be seen whether the change in the American Presidency will have any significant influence on foreign policy.Time will tell.

Americans must themselves chose the President that they judge to be best for their country. However, in turn, the choice they make will to an extent determine the way the rest of the  world views their country.

Looking in from the outside,  I must remark that polls indicate that the majority of people in Europe would prefer a President Obama over a President McCain. That people in the emerging economies would prefer Obama goes without saying. Right or wrong, another Republican President would be greeted with dismay from outside. Considering that globalisation is creating a more equitable distribution of economic power across the world, this is just one of the  factors American voters should consider when placeing their vote.

    May the best man win.

    To Sondra Sez:

The reason that McCain looks uncomfortable next to Palin is that as a result of his POW torture it is still painful for him to stand too long. That's also the reason that he still can't raise his ill-healed arms above shoulder height, while Obama, the Senator from Harpo Productions, can raise his very high to grub yet more money from well-heeled lobbyists. Just one Chicago electric power company has already given him $258,000.

Isn't it just great that the Republican ticket has much more diversity than the Democrat one? Obama and his family are black and healthy; Biden and his family are white and healthy. Meanwhile, Palin is white, but her husband is a part-time Bering Sea commercial fisherman, a part-time oil pipeline worker, a dues-paying member of the United Steelworkers Union, a champion skimobiler, a champion dogsledder, and part Eskimo Alute Indian. The family has a baby with Down's Syndrome. And the white McCains have an adopted black daughter from Bangladesh.

Sunday Barack complained that McCain had not released detailed proposals on global warming, enrgy, health care, the Iraq war, or the financial economy. Of course, neither has Obama. And remember how he was elected to the U.S. Senate? He had a big lead in Chicago over Republican John Ryan but an even bigger deficit downstate. Then SOMEONE released the sealed Cook County (Chicago) court records of Ryan's divorce from Jeri Ryan ("7 of 9" on "Star Trek: Voyager"). Both parties had agreed to the sealing so that their child would not be embarrassed by the lurid details of sexual perversions forced on Jeri by John. With the sealed file outed, Ryan was forced to withdraw only 60 days before the election. His replacement never had a chance.

Talking about flip flops by McCain? He's a piker compared to Obama, who has switched positions on:

    • warrantless searches
    • when to leave Iraq
    • the D.C. gun ban
    • estate taxes
    • offshore drilling
    • Arctic National Wildlife Reserve drilling
    • Meeting with Iranian leaders (Barack flipped while talking to a Jewish group)
    • removing the Social Security cap (now he would remove it if you make above $250,000, which means he and his wife would remain capped)
    • and many, many others

Well, Barack is just a typical Chicago political hack. I laugh at his commercial asking how many houses McCain owns. John owns one, and he uses it while in Washington on Senate business. His wife Cindy owns 6, including the Sedonia residence, investment properties that she inherited from her parents. She lets her Aunt live in one for free, but Cindy retains title so that she pays the property taxes. She is going to let the 2 boys stay in 2 others and their adopted black daughter in a third.. Meanwhile, Barack has 2, one in D.C. and one in Chicago. The latter was sold to Obama at a far-below-market value by a Democrat fat cat lobbyist, who later sold adjoining property to Barack for a buck so that common folk couldn't move too close to the Obamas.

Wow, What a great American Lady. She is for real. Not a Washington Belt Way creation. Those who worry about

her ability to bethe President should that become necessary, should really be worrying about Obama's ability to be the president. he has zero qualifications with no accomplisments in Governing or Supervising in his portpast credentials. Go Lady, Go

I am astounded that Sen. McCain would choose a neophyte such as Gov. Palin as his running mate. Certainly, he is not choosing country first as he so often proclaims, but, instead we clearly are learning that he is the master of flip flops, so, it is not surprising.

Should he win the election (God forbid) and pass away during his tenure, Gov. Palin would become President. I can't imagine the answers to that 3AM phone call if this ever happens.

We have just nearly completed two terms of the Bush presidency and to give the GOP 4 more is mind boggling. They have practically desimated this country with their incompetency and cronyism along with other characteristics that have proven lethal to the American peoples well being. Haliburton is one shining example. Sen. McCain himself proclaimed he voted with the president over 90% of the time. Truly alarming!

Personally, I am sick of the arrogance of the Bush's, Cheney's, DeLay's and Wolfowitz's who promote torture of prisoners and infringe on American  ideals.

I firmly believe that Mc Cain and Palin will make the very best choice for everyone this year. A vote for Obama is a vote for Maxism. We do not need more socialism in this country. John Mc Cain a hero, a patriot and a straight speaking American. Looks like Palin is cut from the same cloth.

Obviously, Sondra Sez needs to check up on the size of Alaska!  Last time I looked it was the largest State in the US.  Sarah Palin is well qualified for the VP slot and will be great for our country!

I believe we forget somehow that we are voting for a President, a leader who can lead this great country of ours.

McCain has met Palin once, and talked to her on the telephone briefly,  and looks very uncomfortable even standing next to her.

She is a Governor of the smallest State of the US, has absolutely no experience in leading, or decision making. She is not a States person, has never been out of the country, and her only claim to fame is that she won a beauty contest.

I have heard her speak, and lacks poise, she screeches and does not ooze of confidence.  The only thing she has in common with Hillary Clinton, is that they are both women. That is where it stops!

Someone , and it was not McCain obviously,  thought she would make a good running mate for McCain, and so it happened. Once again, McCain cannot make his own decisions..and if he cannot even select his own running mate, what type of President do you think he would make?

He is a good man, but an older man, and a cancer survivor. If he died, the Presidency would go to Palin.  What kind of President would she make? Think about that!..

She has no experience, no knowledge of Foreign affairs, and just came out of nowhere.

Obama and Biden make a great pair. They compliment each other, and the US would be in great hands with either of both of them.

Obama looks, sounds and acts like a President. Not since President Roosevelt, has anyone been able to speak as Obama does and have  people eager to listen.

We need change, and not more of the same!!

Good words that have never been as true as now! The United States needs a leader that can be respected once again.  We need to once again regain the friendship of our foreign allies.

We need a President, that the youth of today look up to and think.."I want to be president also one day"
