It was suggested to me by several different people that I try and find a student intern from the Marketing or Communications department of a nearby college to help me design and then implement marketing campaigns for my book. As I’ve mentioned before authors have to be marketers as well.
The idea of getting an intern was a new one to me, but I was assured that students, especially those in their senior or junior years are looking to add valuable experience to their resumes, not to mention trying out their new skills in the real world.
So I developed a flyer outlining what I was looking for and went off to Plymouth State University which was only about 10 miles away. I was warmly greeted by staff in the Student Union who not only “approved” the posting of my flyer but offered to spread it around for me. I also found several store owners where students “hang out,” very receptive to my request.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get any responses as my timing was bad. It was getting toward the end of the semester and finals were looming, and then the students took off for the holidays. As of yesterday they are still not back, so I think I’ll wait and get the flyers reposted in the next week or so
