Tango or die trying!

I have a date with destiny in about 48 hours.  It's also a date with my guy, and I'll be wearing a foofy black chiffon dress with polka dots, but in the final analysis, it's also a date with destiny.

They say "it takes two to tango," and we're finally going to try to do this in public!

I haven't decided whether to go with the magenta suede spike heels or the slightly lower black suede spike heels...but as a friend noted, the black ones were made in Brazil, so I should be halfway to success before the music starts!

We're going to a dinner dance that's raising money for a Hispanic outreach organization in my community.  I went to the first one last year solo since I knew a couple of the organizers and besides, I had donated a picture to the auction.  I thought nothing of standing around chatting all evening in a plain black jersey dress and pair of leopard print stilettos...until I tried to leave, and then a friend threw me onto the dance floor with a Spanish-speaking priest who apparently knew how to samba, and my entire life's focus in that moment became (1) staying upright in dangerous shoes and (2) not killing anyone else in the process.

I've been plotting my return since then.  This year, the tickets came with the option of signing up for three dance lessons beforehand in a church gym.  We're trying our best, and in fact we're going to practice together again tonight.  I haven't committed yet to the thought of showing up at the dance with a red rose in my teeth.

But red rose or not, there's one thing I've learned about dance lessons.  The most important thing to have is not a sense of rhythm, or a sense of timing, or a sense of  music.  It's to have a sense of humor!!  You can have the rhythmic sense of a baked potato and still have an amazing amount of fun as long as you're able to dust off your pride and try, try again.  Let's just say I've been doing a lot of dusting lately.

Wish us luck!  Cha, cha, cha...
