The link below is a collection of stories assembled by the United States Library of Congress that is a must read for all Nurses. These are stories of valor, heartbreak, sacrifice, joy, sadness, exhaustion, and tradition that only another Nurse could understand.
When our wounded soldiers returned from the battlefield broken and in horrible pain only a military nurse could provide the level of comfort, compassion and support that was necessary to get these soldiers through their ordeal and on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, all too often a stalwart military nurse was the last person to sit with a dying soldier to provide them those last moments of comfort. Thanks to the years and years of sacrifice and service, military nurses played one of the most vital roles essential to our country and to the men and women who served.
If you ask any senior resident in the community or in a nursing home or assisted living center who is a veteran of a foreign war, I am sure they can tell you just how valuable a role the military nurses played during their tour.
