My mother always told me, "when life hands you lemons...make lemondade!" It was true then and it's true now, but SURPRISE! She never told me HOW to make the lemonade!
Considering the age group that subscribes to this newsletter, I'd be willing to believe you'll understand the following story.
My husband and I were sitting around chatting--well moaning mostly--back in March about the 401 K $$ we thought would be enough to live on through retirement--what to do now was a daily topic, especially since 6 years ago our youngest son was injured in a car crash and unable to work. We had not planned to be financially responsible for all three of us on retirement funds.
After brainstorming a while, we decided to start an Internet business. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. "In this economy??? What? Is she crazy???" And my answer to that is if you don't try, you'll never know. You see pretty much my entire life I've lived by the 'rhinoceros theory'...just charge!
So here's the story that inspired Hide a Heart™.
About twenty-seven years ago my husband hid a little glass heart for me to find. Now he was probably in the 'dog house' for one reason or another, but I was absolutely delighted when one day I discovered the wee heart among my lingere. From that day on we have taken turns hiding the little red glass heart from one another in a secret place. It's worked so well for us, we thought others might benefit from this easy, sweet and renewing way to say 'I Love You!'
Most every relationship can use a little 'relationship rejuvenation' once in a while. People can get a little 'lazy' about this stuff. I don't know why...we're pretty good during the 'fresh bloom' of a relationship, but as the years pass, there seems to be a tendency to over-look the simple, easy ways to fan our flames!
Flowers, candy, notes, hugs, kisses on the back of the neck, holding hands, sharing a cup of coffee/tea or glass of wine while watching the sun rise or set among others are good little practices to RE-IMPLEMENT if you have let them go for a while. FYI: I can make a longer list for you if you ask me! or YOU can post a comment.
So, here's a simple but sweet way to boost your relationship meter to the positive. Tuck a Hide a Heart glass heart in a sweatsuit pocket or shaving kit or make-up bag of someone you LOVE as an affectionate surprise! Then trade off hiding it from one another! It's fun! It's romantic! It's Eco-friendly because you only have to buy it once and then reuse again and again! HINT: Then REUSE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN part is key to 'keep the home fires blazing'...well, at least lighted!
I can tell you, there's been more than one occasion the little heart facilitated the beginning of a constructive discussion for me, especially when one of us found it hard to start out by saying, "I'm Sorry". FYI: That would be ME I'm referring to!
Would love to hear what others have been doing to 'inspire POSITIVE expression' between one another or if you decide to pick up a Hide a Heart, you can see one at www.hideaheart.com

Posted 2:24pm September 23rd, 2009Cathy made a special order for me to give as a reunion gift to my sorority pledge class sisters. The hearts are now a sentimental symbol of our group's unique friendship of 48 years.

Posted 12:07am September 11th, 2009I think this is such a wonderful inspiration! I love the story of how it came about and admire the people responsible for putting it into motion. I have a granddaughter that I think will love hiding this for her parents! Remember, kids are naturals at this kind of thing! Hope you will check out the blog and the website and further support a great idea! blj
