My new business venture: Mom for Hire

I can think of 1 million reasons to hire a stand-in mom: cleaning, cooking dinner, doing the laundry, gift-wrapping birthday gifts, writing thank you cards, etc., etc.  But I suppose on most days I can just suck it up and get all those tasks done, along with working on my paying job and the unpaid bliss that is motherhood and wifedom.

However, I think I would have given up whatever meager savings I have to hire a stand-in mom this weekend to take care of my very sick family. A little background: my daughter, who is 13 months old, started day care last week for the very first time.  And, like clockwork, 24 hours later, she was giving Linda Blair a run for her money by getting sick all over the house (and usually on mom).  Now, thanks to several phone calls to my own mother, who is unfortunately 1,500 miles away, I was able to handle the taking care of a sick baby part of being a mom.

And I was even handling taking care of my husband when he caught the baby's bug and started running a 101.4 fever.  So I had one recovering baby (the 13mo) and one sick and whiny baby (the 33 year old!).

But then mom got sick.  And there was no one to take care of me!  I wanted MY mommy.  That's when it hit me -- if we can hire people to clean our homes, take care of our children and walk our dogs, why can't we hire a delightful matronly woman to come take care of us when we're sick? She could make soup, disinfect the kitchen and keep the Jell-O chilling in the fridge.

I think I'm on to something here.  Maybe when I'm feeling better I'll explore this further.  What do you think?

    Can I relate!

My father-in-law died two months ago, his son (my husband) injured his knee and was in hospital in isolation room for three days, then my 14 yr old gets swimmers' ear from the swimming portion of her PE class!

So far this mom hasn't gotten ill but I have been stressed.

At times like that I wonder why we got our "Need to walk 3x a day" dog and why we decided upon a wood pellet stove that requires manual start...

I'm thinking that maybe you are onto something here. Keep us posted!
