Yard Sale Adventure

My mom and I could not resist a nice Saturday morning of going to yard sales.
We would always find a great bargain and a few things we didn't need.
One Saturday morning we decided to go to a neighbor's yard sale in the Winter Park Pines subdivision. We had been neighbors for over twenty years and they moved.
So we were killing two birds with one stone A visit and a sale. My husband at the time and I lived in a house across the street from my mom .
It had a huge family room that had never been finished off...it had a bare cement floor that was painted, the walls were done but they never got around to the floor. Rent was cheap 125.00 a month. It was a useable room but the floor was so cold!
We arrived at the sale and low and behold they had a 12x16 ft gold shag carpet for 20.00
It was the perfect size for our room. I jumped on it . We finished our visit and Ralph helped me load it on top of my car.. A little green AMC Gremlin.
I was elated at my find and couldn't wait to get home to show my husband.
Mom and I were quite proud of ourselves.
If you have ever read any of my blogs you will remember my mom had health problems and a real bad leg .
We were turning from Aloma onto 436 headed home when all of a sudden the rug slid off the car and onto 436.
Great...now what? I told mom I would try to get the carpet rolled over to the curb by mysel as I knew she couldn't help. Cars wizzed by and not one stopped to help two ladied in distress!
I managed to get the carpet off the highway but then what? Mom and I couldn't lift it back up on the car.and the rope was broke.
OK mom I said this is the plan! I leave you here to guard the carpet and I go back and get Ralp to help .Good old mom she said ok .
AS I drove off what a sight I saw ...There was mom sitting on the carpet on the side of the road on busy 436 just smiling and waving at people as they went by.
I wish I would have had a camera as it was a sight to see.
I came back with Ralph and mom was laughing, as it turns out someone passed by and offered her 50.00 for our carpet.
We all had a good laugh. We made it home safe with the carpet and my husband liked it.
It looked nice on the floor and it warmed the room up alot.
Just one more memory of mom's and my adventures I wanted to share.
Life is so dull without her!
