I have a friend, a very special one indeed. And on Dec. 6, this fine gentleman celebrated his 85th birthday. To make it extra special, his daughter planned a surprise party. In fact, it was his very first real birthday party. Apparently, throughout his younger years and while married, he was never able to actually celebrate his birthday with a party. Thus, his family decided he deserved this BIG celebration. Fortunately, I was invited. He arrived thinking he was heading off to dinner somewhere in Orlando. Instead, he walked into a BIG crowd of folks calling out SURPRISE & HAPPY BIRTHDAY! He smiled! And he walked, along with his daughter, over to a big box... a box in which he was told held a special birthday present. Well, inside the box was a "lady" friend who flew in from Baltimore. And, when he opened the "door" to the box, out came his "friend" and again, a big, huge smile. Of course, in his style, he said that usually when one opened a box of this type, the person "popping" out was supposed to be "well..." let's just say, basically wearing little or no clothing!!! He had us laughing from the start! The party was obviously a success. Great food and drinks. Wonderful conversations. Great stories. Laughter! Cake! Photos! Gifts! A perfect evening for a perfect gentleman, a person who I not only consider a friend, but in great fondness and "with love" call him my "aka" Dad. May he live another 85 years! God bless him.
