Part of my job as the Director of Communications at the Florida Sports Foundation is to publicize the annual Florida Senior Games State Championships. For the last couple of weeks I have had the opportunity to speak with some of the athletes who have registered for the Games. I am always inspired by athletes like Joanne Sampson of Hallandale, who did not compete in athletics until the age of 62 when she ran her first competitive 100 yard dash. Now four years later, she has whittled four seconds off her time and will run this year in Fort Myers. I also talked to Dean Davis, who completed the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii at the age of 70. He will compete in 12 events in four sports this year. As the Games approach, hopefully I will have a chance to share more stories of inspiration.

Posted 7:49 pm November 18th, 2007Nick, you're sitting on an untapped gold mine! There is nothing more inspiring than the Senior Games. And there is no more uplifting group of people to hang out with than the participants! Life is all about being involved and you do a great job in bringing out the best in people... People who sometimes didn't know they had it in them!!!

so nice to see you on the site! I was in The Villages this week and saw the booklet on the Senior Games. There are so many inspirational athletes. I can't wait to learn more!
