Miguel Angel Torres facing off with Brian Bowles
Hard Rock Casino--Las Vegas--August 9--Brian Bowles (8--0) ended Miguel Angel Torres' (36--2) reign as Bantamweight Champ tonight with one of the most impressive, devastating performances of the year, by Knocking out the ex-champ in under 4 minutes of the first round of the WEC Bantamweight Title fight, tonight in Las Vegas.
Bowles' first strike knocked Torres loopy, which was an indication of things to come. When Torres attempted to attack Bowles toward the latter part of the round, Bowles hit Torres with a strike that floored Torres, then Bowles continued to strike until Torres was Knocked unconscious. Bowles struck Torres a few more times until the referee stopped the fight, leaving Bowles as the last man standing.
Dominick Cruz (14--1) beat Joseph Benavidez(10--1) in the co main event, taking all three rounds of fast, furious fighting from both fighters. Cruz had the reach advantage (Benavidez is 5'4"), using that and his multiple take downs throughout the fight to score the decision. --rty
