Growing Bolder with The Computer!

Internet popularity is not just affecting the larger conglomerates of Corporate America. It is also changing the individual career lives of retired adults. Now, you may think that “Career Lives of Retirees” is an oxymoron, but the idea is growing as fast as the Internet itself. What seems to be making active adults find interest in the World Wide Web is that besides TV and publications, the Internet is one more way to focus in on a person’s favorite hobby.

In the year of 2001, after the tragedy of September 11th, companies had no choice but to make huge cut-backs, including some employees with impressive tenures.  Where did these employees go? To concentrate on their golf game, of course (or fishing excursion, or crochet skills) for money!

According to AARP formally known as American Association of Retired Persons, 80% of baby boomers plan to work into their retirement years.

Once they stopped working in their big corporate offices, retirees were spending all their time at home, online with what used to be their recreational activities. Those that have fallen in love with golf have created their own golf Web sites. Those that love shell-collecting have started a new career blogging about it.

Building a Web site takes huge amounts of time to learn and implement. Even more so, managing these Web sites is incredibly time-intensive. Who has this kind of time? Well, not only do retirees have the 12 hours a day, but they have a lifetime of experiences and expertise to start these Web sites.

In the future, you will start to see a lot more Web sites created and managed by our very own retired friends.  When you see these, you’ll know that the love and passion is built right into the site.

Most retirement communities like Lake Ashton encourage recently retired adults to immerse themselves in their favorite hobbies. Lake Ashton also offers computer courses to familiarize retirees with the computer to jumpstart their careers in Web Site Development.

Have you taken computer courses? Have you created your own web site? Tell us about it! Explain how rewarding it has been or the complications you have gone through along the way. Can’t wait to hear about it!

These computer classes are taught in an easy environment...suggest you take them all together, not just one day and another day. Good group...nice people. Waiting for the advanced classes
