It's my new favorite commercial, and it really hits on something we're trying to do at Growing Bolder. You know the one I'm talking about - the AT&T spot where the family is sitting around, getting a lecture on the wireless phone bill. First mom starts in on the kids - telling them they went way over their text message limit. From the girl, "RUS?" which stands for (as the subtitles spell out)"are you serious?" From the boy ... a groan and "ugh."
Then grandma, who is texting through the commercial, gets the stare from her daughter. "Mom, who could you be texting?" Grandma's response ... "IDK, My BFF Rose?"
She cracks me up ... and it's one of the things we're learning about the Growing Bolder community. Our research shows that more and more baby boomers are into gadgets, and high-tech toys. My own grandmother is having a great time discovering the wonders of the internet. 9 times out of 10, when I get an email from her, it's a forwarded joke or video. My dad was the first person I know to get a Blackberry, and now he's addicted (like most "Crackberry" owners). Marc Middleton first introduced me to the ipod years ago when NO ONE had them.
This commercial shows that some of the biggest companies in the world are trying to harness the power of the Boomer. This commercial is a great example of that - it uses an intergenerational family that could live in any home, in any city ... to give you a laugh, and to hook you into buying the company's product.

Posted 3:07pm July 1st, 2009Well Well, Katy--fancy meeting you so soon already. Huh? Oh my what kind of a silly greeting is that! lol I just saw your thumbprint about 4 seconds ago and since it's the only human face I recognized since joining GB yesterday, of course I had to check it out.
And so it took one whole paragraph to explain why I am here. Now that makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?
Well, I accomplished something, anyway. Found where my very first GB friend hangs out so I'm kind of off and running anyway. This is a good thing.
Gotta go. It is 2:00 p.m. and I have no idea where the entire morning has slipped off to......when I am at the peecee like this, time has no meaning because I am not actually here.
Bye now......
