A little bit of Florida's back country

As some of your already know, I am a motorcycle enthusiast. To be on the open road with the wind in my face gives me a feeling of really being alive and in touch with nature.

The other day a small group of us over 50 year old riders decided to take a little adventure ride. Since we all lived in different places throughout Florida, we decided to meet for breakfast at Jake's Place on Highway 40 just east of Silver Springs ( a great little place to eat). For many of the riders it meant leaving home before sunrise, but that's all part of the adventure.

After breakfast we set out for a planned ride of about 160 miles. We were being lead by Winnie from Gainesville, the only female in the group. It was her birthday, and of course she was 39 and holding. Winnie took us through some beautiful country, which included some of the Ocala horse country, and the Ocala National Forest. She even took us down a dirt road that ended at the north end of Lake George, where we would catch a ferry ride to the other side.

As we were crossing the lake we spotted a bald eagle in her nest watching us as we went by her. On the other side was another dirt road, but much shorter. We meandered through the countryside for another few hours and ended up at Gator Joe's in Oklawah for an early dinner. After dinner we said our goodbyes and all headed off in different directions. At the end of the day I had ridden over 300 miles.

Another great day with good friends.

    Lou,
What a terrific adventure. I love to take day trips on my bike. I have been to some very interesting places in our great state but I have never been to Gator Joe's or Jakes place. Do youhave a GPS route map available? I can send you a few of my favorites if you or a friend can download Garmin maps.

    Lou -
Sweet - the weather's been right4ridin' for sure.
That sounds nice a nice trek - Maybe you should googlemap it out in case anybody else wants to daytrip thru the cabbage patch. You know what I mean...
Seriously, it's a great way to spend a Sunday!

That sounds like such a great day! And I can't believe how great your shot of the eagle is. Every time I spot something like that in the wild, it's gone before I can get my camera turned on!

Keep those stories and photos coming! I can almost feel the wind in my hair.
