Cleaning House

Something I did recently that apparently most people do all the time.  I rearranged my family room.  When a new piece of furniture comes into our house I usually put it in its place and it stays there.  Recently we got new furniture for our family room and instead of putting it in the same place the other furniture was I moved things around.  I must say it does look a lot better.  My daughter is always moving her furniture around.  She calls it cleaning house.  She just moved into a new apt. recently and she has moved the furniture at least 3 times already that I know of.

A good idea, Ann. I use 'grand foulards', you know, covers? in different colours to brighten things up, the room looks different every time I change the things and I change the flowerpots in the same colour.
It doesnot cost much and it makes a nice difference.

    Ann,
I admire your courage in rearranging your furniture and wish with all my heart I could do the same!  I live in a condo whose design team, I have come to believe, did not have a woman on it.  I know that sounds sexist, but if you could see they way this place is laid out you would know what I mean.  I honestly believe a woman would have had a better feel for allowing for switching things around.  It seems that once I found a workable arrangement of the furniture....that was it for eternity!  I've been here 11 years and every piece is exactly where I placed it when I moved in.  I try not to think about it!  lol  It takes a lot of control to ignore the situation sometimes, but I've become very good at that.  Oh, well, I guess it's home sweet home regardless.....and I do love living here.

Ann, we've had Elllen Whitehurst on the GB Radio Show a couple of times. Ellen is an expert on Feng Shui. In her most recent interview, she talked about things you can do you help bring in prosperity in the new year and moving the furniture is one of them!

Ellen believes that the "intention" to create success, happiness, wealth, etc. is powerful  because every action has a reaction. How does moving furniture fit into this? Ellen explains.

    Ann,

I have found that moving furniture around can be a cheap and easy (well, easy for me, not so much for my husband) way of making things look fresh. Everything looks different when your sofa is across the room ...

The other way I save money with redecorating is moving pieces from one room to another, so my living room lamps and now in the bedroom, and a small bookshelf that was once in the office is now in the dining room!

Ciji Ware is a GB buddy, and recommends "rightsizing." It's the same concept ... figure out how to use what you have an getting rid of the things you don't.

Here's her profile, and a link to one of the times she's been on our radio show.
