Sharing Wisdom

Like most parents, when my children were young  I was probably guilty of telling my kids to do what I say rather than to do what I do. That being said,I would like to think that by word and action, I gave my children a pretty good idea about right and wrong and a positive philosophy to live their lives. On the other hand, it may just have been dumb luck that I was blessed with three wonderful children. Whatever the reason, I am very grateful.

Dispensing advice to the young is probably self serving and most likely will fall on deaf ears. However, I can say with certainty that the following thoughts and observations if practiced will lead to positive outcomes:

1. Don't worry about negative things that may or may not happen. They usually don't happen, and you aggravated yourself for no reason.
2. Don't sweat the details. Focus on the big picture and you will figure out the rest.
3. Nothing good or bad in life lasts forever. Remember the housing boom, the tech bubble and the Detroit Lions losing streak.
4. Surround yourself with good friends. The people who you hang out with says volumes about who you are.
5. Never ever lose your sense of humor and don't take yourself too seriously.
6. If you are the star jock in High School, be kind to the nerdy kid. One day you maybe working for him.
7. Be kind to Grandma and Grandpa. They love you unconditionally. Your time with them is the greatest gift you could ever give them.
8. I don't know why, but when you are going through a bad time and things appear to be hopeless, a solution will emerge and your cloud will be lifted.
9. Don't worry. Somehow after your teenage years are over, your parents will finally get it.
10. When you are older, if you have wonderful memories and people to share them with, you lived an extraordinary life.
