For years I have sat by and watched the rave reviews and the god-like adoration of Elvis Presley. Yes, he was a good entertainer, but to crown him as "King of Rock and Roll" is a grave injustice. The TRUE king of rock and roll is none other than Jerry Lee Lewis. All anyone has to do is listen and you can see his heart and soul in
his music. There isn't a person around today who play a piano like he can.
About a decade or so ago, I happen along a program were they showed his life story. At the time, Jerry Lee had fallen upon hard times, his health had been comprimised to the point he almost died. If it were not for this one program, no one would have ever know anything. What a terrible tribute to such a talented man. Unfortunately, just as career was reaching his peak, he married his 13-year old cousin. A scandal ensued throughout the country at that time. It happened in the '50s; if it happened today, I'm sure no one would think the worse of him. It ruined his career unfortunately and he paid a very dear price. Even I, at the time, thought him repulsive; however, I believe he was a "country boy" and if he was, I think marrying his 13-year old cousin was quite acceptable to their society. I may be wrong.
In any event, it only proves that there are times we are so ready to judge someone, myself included, without knowing all of the facts. Without knowing ALL of the facts, we are unable to arrive at a just conclusion.
Think about it!! The media doesn't always provide all of the facts.

Posted 11:03am July 1st, 2009I'm glad you posted this -- it really made me think! It's interesting the way that we remember some things about celebrities, and forget others, and the more time that goes by, the truer that is.
What's your favorite Jerry Lee Lewis moment or performance?
