A report by Edward R. Murrow and producer Fred Friendly airs on the CBS television show "See It Now," criticizing Wisconsin Sen. Joseph McCarthy's anti-Communism campaign. The show contributes to the political downfall of McCarthy, and cements its place in television history. It also inspires the 2005 Academy Award-nominated film "Good Night, and Good Luck."

Happy birthday, Barbie! The doll created by 43-year-old Ruth Handler debuts, wearing a black and white zebra striped swimsuit and a ponytail that's available in blonde or brunette. 50 years after Barbie's birth she's still Growing Bolder -- toy maker Mattel claims it sells a Barbie doll every three seconds.

Janet Jackson signs a $30 million deal with Virgin Records. It's the largest record deal ever -- until brother Michael signs with Sony a week later. On February 28, 2008, 41-year-old Janet releases "Discipline." It's her 10th studio album.
March 11, 1993
54-year-old Janet Reno becomes the nation's first female attorney general. After leaving political life, Reno serves as Executive Producer for a compilation of patriotic songs performed by modern musicians, called "Song of America." Not just bold -- Reno rocks!

At RCA's Nashville studios, Elvis Presley records the album "Something For Everybody" in less than 12 hours. It's his first album after his time in the Army and proves the King hasn't lost his touch!
