James Gibson is not only a great artist but a true gentleman. I had the priviledge of meeting Mr. Gibson during a Highwaymen exhibit at the History Center a few years ago.  At the show my wife and I purchased one of his paintings, one so recently completed that the paint was still wet and come off on my wife's blouse smearing part of the picture.  Mr Gibson took the painting back and said he would repaint it.  He then invited us down to his studio in Ft. Pierce to pick it up.

His studio is a small, single story house in a residential neighborhood, the rooms filled with stacks of his recently completed work and the smells of his paints and solvents.   After presenting us with our restored painting, he generously showed us some of his recent work and a scrap book of news stories and magazine articles about himself and the Highwaymen going back years. Mr. Gibson gave us a great memory that we cherish along with his wonderful painting.
