No one has done more to innovate and popularize the Lindy Hop than Frankie Manning.

He electrified the dance halls of New York in the 1930s and 1940s, particularly the night he and his partner, Freda Washington, stunned a crowd of 2,000 with the first Lindy airstep ever done.

He talked to Growing Bolder about his inspiration for the dance and why he has spent the past several decades teaching others to share his joy of dance.

Now 92, he has no plans of slowing down.
