Joey Dee and his group the Starliters shot to the top of the pop charts in the 1960s with their dance song, "The Peppermint Twist."
A career with other top hits and starring roles in films quickly followed.
Joey talked to Growing Bolder about his meteoric rise and how songs like his still have the ability to strike a chord of nostalgia in all of us.
He described his new group, the Dream Team of Rock 'n Roll, which includes some of the top acts from the '50s and '60s.

Posted 1:04pm August 6th, 2010In Casselberry, Fl, the 80s we had this little pawn shop. I went there to play the guitars and the owner really knew guitars. At that time I would sing Freddy's steak house on occasion and I mentioned the pawnshop to the piano player at Freddy's. She laughed and said, "Tim, don't you know who that owner is? It was Joey and he had left the music industry and started this little shop.
I later heard he reentered music and was pushing to have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame built.
