He's won Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globes. And his music has been recorded by everyone from REM to The Muppets.

After riding the wave of his celebrity to the top, a lifestyle of drugs and alcohol caused him to downward spiral in the 1980s.

But now, he's been sober for more than 20 years and he's found a new purpose in life and a renewed passion for songwriting.

Paul Williams tells us why he decided to let a fan follow him around with a camera for the documentary "Paul Williams: Still Alive" and share his deepest and darkest secrets with the world.

Paul wrote iconic songs like "The Rainbow Connection" and "Just an Old-Fashioned Love Song" and co-wrote many of The Carpenters biggest hits describes the heart connection he feels with people who tell him they learned to play piano to "The Rainbow Collection" or got married to a song like "You and Me Against the World."

He says escaping the horror of drugs and alcohol helped him appreciate life and music again.
