The Young Composers Challenge is the brainchild of Stephen Goldman, an Orlando philanthropist who is also a trained composer. The Challenge is simple. Young composers (ages 13-18) take part in an extensive workshop with world-renowned composers. Then they have all summer to work on writing their own score. In September, a panel of judges chooses the top three orchestral and ensemble pieces, and these are performed by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra at the Bob Carr Auditorium. The Young Composers Challenge is totally free. Winners get an invaluable learning experience, exposure for their work, and prize money for themselves and their music teacher.
