Not since Quincy has America embraced a medical examiner as a celebrity, but Jan Garavaglia is all the rage. Only this M.E. is the real thing! The star of "Dr. G: Medical Examiner" on Discovery Health has been digging into dead people for years. Along the way, she says she's picked up little nuggets of information that she filed away in her mind.

She's taken those and compiled them into a brand new book, "How Not To Die: Surprising Lessons on Living Longer, Safer and Healthier from America's Favorite Medical Examiner." The book makes sense, coming from someone who's seen more death than anyone.

She talks about the dangers involved in everything from clutter to hospitals to broken hips to the dangers of alcohol. And, she finally answers the burning question -- what's a nice girl like her doing in a job like that!

    Hi Dr. G!

I am a huge fan of your show and watch it late at night anytime I can.  If someone had told me a few years ago that one of my favorite shows would be all about autopsies I would have told them they'd completely lost their mind!  However, you make it so interesting.  What I truly like about watching the show is the sincerity and respect you show each decedent, along with your tireless determination to find the cause of death, not just for the records but to bring whatever comfort you can to those left behind.  No one wants to lose a loved one without knowing why or how.  We need to be able to make sense of a death in order to better cope with it and you help us achieve that.

If we ever meet, I sure hope it's at one of my shows and not your workplace   Thank you and God bless you for all you do.
