After fighting and winning a very public battle with breast cancer, TV anchor Wendy Chioji walked away from her glamorous career to find something more fulfilling in life.
She packed up her home in Florida and headed west, to seek adventures in Park City, Utah. Now she's cycling and running around the world, while speaking to other cancer survivors about what's possible in life.
Wendy says surprisingly, breast cancer turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to her. She says it helped her re-prioritize her life and to stop putting things off. She followed her heart, which led her to the mountains.
"The mountains have always called to me. They're so peaceful and humbling. You look up and feel like an ant. It reminds me to keep my feet on the ground," she tells Growing Bolder.
Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. She says she never wants to forget that she's a survivor. She takes every chance she gets to speak with people currently fighting the disease or who are survivors themselves. And she says she always feels so empowered afterwards.
She reveals what one book helped her through her own battle with cancer, including her months of chemotherapy, and offers advice and a philosophy for anyone else traveling the same journey.
As you might imagine, Wendy is a perfect example of the Growing Bolder spirit. That's why we're thrilled to announce that she will be an integral part of our next season of the nationally syndicated Growing Bolder TV show.
She explains why she wanted to return to TV to work with us and what message she hopes others will learn from the example she's setting in her own life.
