Carla Hoppie isn't your average college freshman.

The 50-year-old mother and waitress not only decided to go back to school, she tried out for and made the varsity track team at Eastern Oregon University.

Now, her son is her classmate and teammate.

She revealed to Growing Bolder what sent her back to school.
