Posted 12:30pm June 21st, 2009My great aunt taught Latin for forty years. She was a holy terror of the WCTU ilk (that's the Women's Christian Temperance Union for those who don't remember that they along with their leader Carrie Nation literally busted up saloons and got spitoons out of train cars - akin to getting cigarettes out of airplanes). My aunt had no truck with those who could not, would not do their declensions. She also had no truck with anyone knowing her age, so she threw out the Bible that had been in the family since the Revolution so know one would remember it. She knew her disciplines.
All that to say it takes a lot of discipline to read Latin, but it should be started in kindergarten since our languages originate from it. It is a wonderful basis for words. I just love words.
Congratulations for having fun with words
