Many of us get so caught up with the stuff we have to do every day, such as work and family obligations, that we forget one of the things we should be doing -- having fun.
Joe Robinson wants us to retrain our brains to live each day and start focusing on the things we really want to do.
In his new book, "Don't Miss Your Life: Find More Joy and Fulfillment Now," he explains how even though we're all consumed with our external output -- our jobs, money, toys, success -- what we really want is the stuff that appeals to us internally -- family, friends, hobbies, free time.
He wants to launch a movement to help us activate our lives outside the office.
Joe says all that stuff that we tend to push to the side is where we get our biggest satisfaction. He says because of this, people are experiencing what he calls a life deficit disorder -- the felling of a void in our lives, feelings of emptiness and the feeling that we don't know how to have fun anymore.
So how can you start having fun again? Joe offers tips, including things that don't cost anything, to help you start enjoying life again.
Plus, find out how he's trying to encourage employers to give workers more autonomy in how they get their work done. He said too many companies are still stuck in the old-style methods of controlling how employees accomplish goals. Find out how offering autonomy support can lead to job satisfaction and better, more efficient employees.
And Joe explains his efforts to get a minimum paid leave time bill passed in Congress.
