They sure don't make them like Virginia Ferrigno anymore. How many weed-whacking, blunt-talking, active-living 85-year-olds do you know? She is a character! And she does exactly what she wants to do -- regardless of what anybody thinks!
If you think it's too difficult to make a difference, wait until you see how hard Virginia works every day, all for the love of her late husband.

Posted 11:59 am July 16th, 2009I agree and have been saving my neighbors beautiful old magnolia tree that was planted over 70 years ago. No one else not even the new owners care to do it. Grape vines have grown up and all over this beautiful speciman tree. I am doing it in honor of the original owner of this house. Mrs. Herzog (deceased) is thanking me for saving her tree. It is said that she is a ghost in her house by the previous owner. She'll never haunt me as I am respectful to her memory. She loved her gardening and I do too!

Posted 9:41 am July 3rd, 2009I am 65.....I have decided to pick up trash on our country roads here in Tennessee....it is hard work....people tell me all the time that it's not my job to do......but after looking at it for months and months.....I say (like Virginia) "if not me, then who?". There are those of us who take care of what needs to be done, regardless of who "should" be doing it......I love you, Virginia, you are my kind of gal!!

Posted 2:47 pm July 2nd, 2009She reminds me of my Dad. He was crawling up on roofs in his 80's. If his eyesight would have been better, he would have been dangerous! He lived until he was 94.
Way to go Virginia. I admire your spunk. And I like to whack at 'stuff' too

Posted 2:18 pm July 2nd, 2009This is wonderful. I have had spinal surgery but keep doing my own yard work, planting and repairs on my home. It keeps me going. My father didn't retire until he was 73 and died at 95. I need to have reason to push ahead in spite of the pain I live with every day. This lady shows me that it is good to KEEP GOING. Thank you for the boost. Nancy Cramer Easton, Pa age 70 going on 40 LOL

Posted 11:37 am July 2nd, 2009I love this woman! I used to do this sort of thing, too, when my husband and I did volunteer work from our
RV in Colorado at the Pillar of Fire Ministry out there.
It was a passion to keep the branches trimmed, etc.
So I know how she feels! You go girl!!!!

Posted 10:50 am July 2nd, 2009Meaning and purpose in life is a virtue that needs to be instilled in all of us, both young and old. I have too many old friends that have taken the word "RETIREMENT" to heart, and have lost all meaningfull purpose in their lives. The same is true with many young people who have yet to reconize any real purpose in their lives.
Way to go, Virginia. I hope a lot of people see this video, and at least one person is inspired by it.
Kudos to the GB team for showing all of us that retirement is just a word and not a lifestyle
