In 1998, John Crowley's life began to unfold right before his eyes when his young daughter was diagnosed with a rare and deadly genetic disease. He and his wife thought things could never get worse, but only months later, their son was diagnosed with the same illness.

That’s when John decided to take matters into his own hands. He quit his job and started a company dedicated to finding a cure. He raised millions of dollars to fund research, and little by little, never-before-discovered puzzle pieces began to emerge. Before long his company had developed an experimental enzyme replacement therapy that was not a cure, but it stopped the condition from worsening and saved his children’s lives.

A story in the Wall Street Journal led to a best-selling book entitled “The Cure.” It came to the attention of Harrison Ford, who optioned the film rights, and the result was the film, "Extraordinary Measures," starring Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell.

The recognition has funded more groundbreaking research, and John explains to Growing Bolder that he believes we are on the cusp of a new golden age of medicine.

What an inspiring story.  It proves once again that one person can make a world of difference.

God bless you and your family, John.  I'm so happy to hear that your children are doing well.  Perhaps one day soon there will be a cure for this and many other diseases.

    Ginger!
