When Barack Obama won the presidential election he kicked in a door that some believed might never open. The same is happening in the world of racing, only it's women walking through this door. Yes, it turns out the Good Old Boys club is more co-ed than you'd think!

Ah the PRI show!   Good on you all for doing a piece on we chicas in motorsports!

And believe it or not, NASCAR represents the smallest portion of women in the sport - IndyCar and NHRA are far ahead of the curve in that aspect... but anywhere there are women in racing, we love it!

    Thanks for the piece!!

Women have been involved in the world of racing for some time, but their numbers have grown exponentially in the last decade, especially in the shift from fan to participant.  This is true in all forms of motorsports, and they are starting as a participant at a much younger age.  It's a great thing.

A good example of young women getting involved in motorsports at an early age is Ashley Fiolek of St Augustine.  She's still a teenager, and she started motocross racing at the age of 7.  She raced in all of the motocross events that I promoted in Florida, and she is currently the top women pro motocrosser in the US.  What's truely amazing, is that she is totally deaf.

There are also a number of women in the growing boulder category that are still racing motocross on a regular basis
