In 1958, the Ford Edsel was supposed to revolutionize the automobile industry, but instead it became a historical mistake. It was too expensive and released during a recession. Sound familiar? As Detroit looks for ways to once again become profitable, carmakers should remember the lessons of the Edsel.

Posted 8:58pm June 20th, 2009you've got that right! I learned to drive in a '58 Citation (and a 48 Ford - in order to learn on a standard shift also) Don't have my original Citation (sure wish I did!), but dad traded it in while I was overseas) - but noticing that the Bareitt-Jackson didn't have any Edsels 2 years ago, I decided to look on e-bay. Sure enuf, there was one I could afford! So, it is mine! Acgtually, we have too many classics now, so I might be willing to part with it, or maybe another.... maybe. Just got on this site, I hope my collage of cars shows up - P.S. I had a choice of driving an '08 new Dodge Caliber or 92 Camero (branded 25th year Heritage Edition) - I chose the Camero! The Caliber is for sale! My mom and I will be driving across country in July to visit my children and grandchildren. I'm 64, she's 86.
