One of the most exciting things about life is that you never when you might be called upon to make a real difference in the world.

Tracy Stone was convinced that her life had hit rock bottom. In the mid-1990s, she was in the midst of a devastating and surprising divorce and struggled to find a way to get out of bed every day to take care of her two daughters.

As she tried to cope with her new life as a single mother, she started hearing the horrific stories coming out of Rwanda. In the summer of 1994, nearly 1 million Rwandans were killed in a systematic genocide. Yet Tracy continued to read stories of mothers, who had been brutally raped, beaten and witnessed the murders of their children and husbands, still got up every day and tried to get on with their lives.

Tracy was so inspired by these women and she says they helped her learn how to be courageous in the face of what life gives you.

Years later, Tracy was remarried and found herself called to this small African nation. With 15 others, they traveled to Rwanda because Tracy wanted to thank the women for the way their stories changed her life.

Her life was about to change in more ways than she could ever imagine.

When she returned from Rwanda, she quit her job and launched Rwanda Project, a nonprofit organization committed to fighting poverty and restoring hope the poor through economic and educational opportunities.

Find out how this self-described nervous, risk-averse person suddenly found herself in a war-torn country, changing countless lives forever.
