Norine's New Life @80 - I Am Not Now Nor Have I Ever Been a Palm Reader
Recently a stranger entered my home and asked, "Do you know how to read palms?" At first I was startled by her question. Then I realized why she made that assumption.Colorful small hands hang all over my house because they are part of my folklore collection of cross-cultural talismans. The hands are not symbols of a palmistry profession. Instead, they are examples of hamsa, found in the Middle...
Another Ironman 70.3 triathlon completed
On 5/19 I competed in an Ironman 70.3 which consists of a 1.25 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. I finished in 8 hours and 13 minutes and placed 3rd in my age group (70-74). Out of the almost 1400 competitors, I was the 3rd oldest and was glad to beat 104 people younger than me.
This is the 4th race in my goal to do an Ironman 70.3 for each birthday in my 70's.
I plan on doing...

While we rode we started to talk about swimming. My friend Jim has done triathlons and considered doing an Ironman and then he said I don't know if I want to suffer that much.So we started to talk about running, swimming and...

Norine's New Life @80 - "You Still Drive?"
Routinely, my physician asks, "How did you get here today?" When I tell him I drove to his office on my own, he asks with astonishment, "You still drive?"Perhaps, as he reviews my history before stepping into the examining room, he notes my age and assumes that I am no longer capable behind the wheel. He has no way of knowing that in my 81 years I have received only two moving violation tickets.I...

Concerning Sea Turtles
I have never met a sea turtle that I didn’t like – I did, however, meet one once who didn’t particularly like me; in fact, I think she thought that I was trying to kill her babies, but I wasn’t. Here’s what happened: sea turtles are a protected species in Florida, and guided tours are given after dark so people like me can watch the egg-laying process. My family and I signed up for one...
