The inspiration for Father's Day came from an original Mr. Mom – William Jackson Smart from Spokane, Wash., who raised six children after his wife died. Happy Father's Day. The first Father's Day was celebrated in 1910 in Spokane, Washington. In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
