A Fender guitar that Jimi Hendrix scorched in 1967 has been sold at auction to a 51-year-old American collector for just under $500,000.

Today is Thursday, Sept. 1. On this day in1970, Rock star Jimi Hendrix died in London at age 27. In 1975, newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst was captured by the FBI in San Francisco, 19 months after being kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army.
