Reading out Loud
Photo credit by Robert Vrshek of Chicago Anybody's who's spent much time writing knows that it's a pretty solitary pursuit. Just you and the keyboard, or the typewriter, or the legal pad and a sharpened pencil or fountain pen. Sometimes stuff absolutely flows, more often you have to drag it out of hiding, from under sofas, the backs of closets, the deepest recesses of your brain where it digs in...
One winternight stand
If shelter was what you came looking for
Or the warmth of my bed
Or the arms I put around you
-And it was all that you needed, you said -
Then why was it not enough
Later, early, in the hard morning light
when the snow silenced all other life
when it was still too cold to be outside?
How come you went away then
Again, leaving me shattered,
and fighting my tears
Nature concured this time
At her age of eighty five
it is a miracle to all
The fact that she is still alive
As every week she risks a fall
Thursdays she hangs out of her bedroom window,

His face appears from long ago
And though his hair is whiter now
He is the same
His eyes say that all now is well
But tell the story of his life
He saw the world, he fought and fled

But no regret
That they have met
He‘ll sail away on New Years day
Now may he leave on New Years Eve,
The year will end with our...
Long lost friend
Against the sweet colors of the setting sun
the clouds started to fade when there existence had just begun
and when I wanted to shut my curtains down, well there he was.
His face had wrinkles now, his hair was white but still I knew he came for me, and I was right.
We drank all night
not many words were shared
under the cover
and when the clouds came back again, and sunlight...

You haven’t changed much, apart from your clothing in green, and though your eyes show the horrors you’ve seen ‘t is still you. Was it cold where they sent you, where is it that you have been?
You don’t say much now, you just drink my wine Is that a...
We met again by chance
The stench of yesterdays fish
Glistering wet sidewalks
No traffic. England at night
There you were, so bloody handsome
There I was, so bloody young
Slipped away from parental sight
I was shivering and your coat too big for
It smelt of sweat, wet dogs and
The pub was near, ‘t was called “The
